Cuco Ardilla

Native to the Caribbean area of Costa Rica!  It measures between 43 and 46 cm in length and weighs between 95 and 105 g. The plumage is Brown on the back and head, paler on the throat. The breast is grey and blackish belly. The central part of the tail is reddish and the rest black with white spots. The beak is yellow and the iris red. Juveniles are distinguished because the peak is grey, with a brown iris and have fewer white spots on the tail. The South American subspecies p. c. mehleri is usually brown (not black) tail feathers. The subspecies of Mexico and Central America has a yellow eye ring, which is red in the South American subspecies.
